Creep Walk (5/26/2009)

As Lizzie told you the other day, Mommy had planned for us to go on a creep walk, but the rain didn’t hold off and it get cancelled.  But she did promise that we would get to go on our walk some other time.  Well that “other time” was yesterday.  Is that great that Mommy kept her word?!  And even better, because Daddy was back from his trip, he got to join us for the adventure.
What?  You don’t know what a creep walk is?!  Well, you’re in luck because Mommy took lots of pictures for me to share with you.  First off, let me share with you that to go on a creep walk, you need to wear socks and sneakers and you should be in shorts too.  I know…one of those occasions where you can’t wear a skirt…but trust me, you’ll thank me for giving you this advice!!  Don’t bother bringing a camera along with you either…you’ll just end up giving it your mommy or daddy to hold in lieu of one of the zillions of big sticks you will find lying around.

P1000334Now, you start off a good creep walk by locating a small path in the trees.  See?
P1000327 It’s not always a good idea to wander into uncharted territory…you could get lost or stuck!!.
P1000325 Eventually, you will come upon the creep.  Just make sure to approach it carefully so as not to fall in.
P1000330 What do you do when you get there?  Find sticks and rocks and throw them in, silly!!  It’s really fun to watch them float away!
If you’re lucky, eventually you will come upon a spot where you can take your shoes and socks off and go wading in the creep.  Just be careful not to run too fast…it can be slippy.  Also, don’t go near the tall grass by the banks (Okay.  So I’ll admit that I have no clue why this rule exists.  But Mommy kept yelling it so I’m sure it has something to do with one of her neuroses…maybe snakes?)
P1000338 P1000344
Now, if you are really sneaky, you can wander off and find that there are even MORE secret paths to be explored.  Quick!  Run back to get your shoes and socks back on and let the parents know where you are going (that’s being nice…so they don’t worry about you.)  Then, head off into the great unknown…

So there you have it.  Our Memorial Day Creep Walk.  Mommy has promised that we can go on one again.  I cannot wait to see all that we will find next time!!

Girl's Weekend (5/23/2009)

Daddy has gone up to New Jersey to surprise Aunt Gretchen and our new cousin Nikolas, leaving Mommy behind to watch Maddie and me.  What does this mean?  A Girls’ Weekend!!!!  I’m sure you are wondering what a girls’ weekend is like when it involves a 3 and 5-year old.  Well, let me fill you in.
We started our day much the same as we would have if Daddy was around.  We hit the monthly MOMS Club meeting and then afterwards, we went to Chick-fil-A with our friends for lunch.  Times were good until I decided to poopy in my pull up…so Mommy made us leave.  Something about the smell reminding her of toxic fumes.  About an hour later, our friends Bella and Julia came over to play.  This was super exciting because we have now seen them TWO DAYS IN A ROW!!!!  Just one of the perks of Maddie being done with school for the year.
When Bella and Julia left, Mommy surprised us with a trip to Wal Mart.  I know…you’re probably thinking our lives must be quite boring if we consider a trip to Wal Mart a surprise.  Trust me when I say, going to Wal Mart is nothing special anymore since they built the new store right down the street…we get drug their at least once a week by Mommy.  Anyway, it’s the REASON that we went to Wal Mart that was so exciting…Mommy told us we could go and buy new flowers to plant around the trees in the front yard.  Of course, like any other trip to Wal Mart, we couldn’t just go straight to what we were going for…Mommy always has to detour through various sections to see what kind of bargains she could possibly be missing out on.  The important thing is, we eventually made it back to the nursery where Mommy got Maddie and I our own garden shovels and then let us pick out whatever type of flower we wanted to plant.  I picked some really pretty dark pink flowers that are tiny and look like stars.  Maddie couldn’t decide if she wanted light pink or dark pink flowers, so she decided to get 2 of each.  When we got back home, Mommy showed us how to dig holes to put the flowers in.  It was really hard, and neither Maddie or I were very good at it, so we voted Mommy the “official hole digger” and put her quickly to work.

She was really cool and let us actually put the flowers in the holes and cover them up with the dirt.

And then she found 2 pitchers and let us water the flowers.

I think when all was said and done, we did a great job!!!

After dinner, we had a little dance party in the family room.  Here’s a picture of me doing my best moves.  I learned them from donald duck…he’s a mighty fine dancer.

We kicked off Saturday morning with a long run.  Not exactly what Maddie and I had in mind…especially considering that Mommy didn’t run us past a donut store or anything.  But we decided to be nice and humor her for the hour because she was promising us a day of fun.
IMG_9969 (okay.  So i know this picture is from last weekend, but I was just trying to give you an idea of how thrilled we looked in the stroller.)
So you are probably wondering what sort of fun Mommy had planned for us.  Well, the morning consisted of a visit to the Brushy Creek sprinkler park.  We haven’t been out there in forever so we were super excited to go.  Even better, Mommy managed to scrounge up some friends to join us.

we had a great time collecting water in our buckets and throwing it on each other.  We tried a couple of times to throw it on the mommies, but they didn’t quite seem to see the fun in that…something about the water being ice cold.  Whatever!

Then Maddie put on her thinking cap and got really creative.  she found a patch of dirt that we turned into mud and scooped up with sticks to make yucky blucky mucky water.  Again, we thought it was awesome fun, but I know mommy wasn’t too pleased.  I think I even heard her mention something about not needing to try for a boy because Maddie was boy enough.  I don’t get that…mADDIE looks like a girl to me!

This afternoon Mommy had a creek walk planned to appeal to our love for nature and all things buggy…you know, our tomboy sides.   Unfortunately, mother nature had different plans.  A mid-afternoon thunderstorm rolled in.  But don’t fret!  Mommy was able to come up with new plans just like that…and they were just as good.  She took us out to Gattiland for dinner (yummy pizza and brownies!!) and to the dollar store for a little retail therapy.  I know…nothing like she originally had planned, but she does have to help us develop our girly sides too.  And, much to mommy’s surprise, Maddie and I were so well behaved in the store that we each got to pick out a toy to bring home…I’m telling you, that does not happen that often!
So, all in all, it has been a great girls’ weekend.  Maddie and I have had a lot of fun just hanging with mommy.  I hope she’ll let us do it again.  But first, I think we’d really like to have a daddy/daughter weekend!!

Take 2....Literally (5/21/2009)

Yes…I know.  It’s been a year….literally….since we have last posted.  But you see, it really isn’t our fault.  As always, we can blame this one on sweet Mommy again…..and it only got worse when she discovered Facebook and then she started hunting mice and well, that’s an entirely different post.  Needless to say, we have had to make a deal with the devil (read: we have agreed to sound Mommy’s horn) just to get a little computer time.  So Lizzie and I are back and we promise that this year, we WILL do much better in the updating department.
I figured it would be fitting to restart our blog with a similar one that we launched last year’s with…..my second take at the local Kids K that I ran last year.  As you might remember, Mommy suckered convinced me that running the Kids K would be fun, so I agreed to let her sign me up.  The gun went off, I ran maybe 100-yards and then promptly whined until Daddy carried me most of the remaining distance.  Hey…cut me some slack….I was 3 and had never run that far in my life!!
DFest 5k (3) Me finishing the Kids K in 2008
Now, fast forward over the rest of 2008 and the first half of 2009.  I got to watch a lot of running, as Mommy got REALLY nuts and thought it would be cool to run a marathon (yes..I know.  “Cool” and “marathon” should not be used in the same sentence….only complete nut cases would want to run 26.2 miles….NO THANK YOU!).  So then I figured, hey, if she could run that race without dying, surely I could run the entire block without the assistance of Daddy’s arms.  So I had her sign me up again.
I still didn’t do much training.  I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt here.  Mommy did try to take me out and run some laps around the track, but I was much more interested in collecting rocks and playing with the bugs in the sand, so she quickly abandoned that idea.  But Mommy did buy me some new, special running shorts that were sure to make me run speedy quick….plus I looked mighty cute in them, and in the end, that’s all that really matters!
P1000072 Me sporting my new running shorts.
This past Sunday, I met up with 3 of my friends (Mommy has been slowly trying to bring their mommies to the dark side of running and I guess they are being dragged along too) for “take 2.”  Even thought I know Mommy would have LOVED to run with me, I chose Daddy.  I wanted to show him that he didn’t have to actually carry me this year.  Here we are after getting my race number.
IMG_9908
And here’s the start of the race.  That’s my friend Dominic in the front to the right.  He’s speedy quick.  If you look in the back, you can see me and Daddy.  I’m conserving my energy to make sure I have energy left to kick it in at the end.
IMG_9916
And here’s a picture of Daddy and me heading to the first turn.  Notice Daddy giving the thumbs up sign because I’m still running!
IMG_9919
Now, I need to mention that there are no pictures between the start and finish of the race, so there is no proof that I was never actually carried.  I know…you’d think Mommy would have been nice enough to run along with us and take snap shots along the way, but she was being rather selfish at the moment…something about having just “run her all” during the preceding 5k and not having any energy left…whatever!
Anyway, the point is that this year I did not need carried.  I even managed to save a little energy for my “sprint” to the end….
IMG_9933
And here’s Daddy celebrating my first “carry free” Kids K.
IMG_9937
And here’s the best part.  My medal!  And it had a purple ribbon too!
IMG_9940
So I think I might be hooked…..well, not for anything long.  But this Kids K thing, I think I can do it…as long as there is a medal waiting for me at the end.

Our Tribute to Dear Ol' Dad (6/12/2008)

It kind of makes sense, with Father's Day right around the corner, that we should take some time out to honor Daddy.  Lizzie and I think he's the best darn daddy around....even if he is older than a mountain.  He's there for us when we're sick (he points out where mommy needs to clean up after us or
nag
remind her when she needs to give us our medicine) and when we're well.  He's there for all the ups and all the downs. (He's gotten really good at packing us up in the van and waving good bye as Mommy carts us off to the ER.)  Through good and bad, Daddy's been there (probably because Mommy keeps him leashed to the house so he can't run away for good).  Lizzie and I have dug deep into the photo archives to share with you some of the best moments, thus far, for 2008.  We hope you enjoy!

Daddy is a great teacher.  In March,  he took us out to the lake to fly kites....and he even managed to keep the 2 of us from going in the lake.  That takes some serious talent!

IMG_5718

Daddy is a great pillow...when we're sick, there's just nothing like napping on him!

IMG_5822

Daddy is a great chef....he can make a mean Jiffy Pop!

IMG_5829

Daddy is a great seeker....he knows just where to find us!

IMG_5897

Daddy is a great backseat driver...I hope he's this cooperative when we really learn to drive.

IMG_5952

Daddy is a great coach....he really pushed me to finish my 1K run.

IMG_6121

Daddy is great at snuggling...and there's always room for both of us.

Daddy gives the best airplane rides...even when Lizzie gets in the way.

IMG_6193

Daddy is a great storyteller...he even lets us act out the books that we read!

IMG_6230

Daddy is a great fisherman...although how he thought we would catch a fish without a hook is beyond me.  I mean really....did he think he had us fooled?!  We're on to you dad!!

Happy Father's Day, Daddy.  We Love You!!!
